FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE
This is the main manual emergency fuel shut-off valve on this offshore rig located in the South China Sea. It would appear that either design criteria was inadequate, or that the design criteria was not calibrated for the specific user population expected for this facility. It should be noted that the “platform” shown in the photo was actually the foundation for a pump that was off the rig for repair at the time this picture was taken. It would not be available as a step stool in everyday use.
