Fire safety and introduction to fire risk assessment

Fire kills and fire costs money. Having suitable and sufficient fire safety arrangements, and making sure they are working as intended, is essential to make sure fires do not occur.
This training will improve delegates' fire safety knowledge so that they can review fire risk assessments and manage day-to-day fire risk in your premises.

Duration

This is a one day workshop. The programme can be extended to two days to allow delegates to carry out a real review of fire safety arrangements in their workplace and receive further coaching on how to improve their practice.

Who should attend?

The workshop is ideal for supervisors, line managers and safety representatives who may be required to carry out reviews of workplace fire risk assessments or to manage fire safety. It is ideal for staff new to the line manager’s role or to existing staff who would like to improve or refresh their skills.

What will you learn?

The main areas covered by this workshop are:
  • understanding the terminology of fire risk assessment
  • applying hazard identification techniques
  • applying fire risk estimation processes and techniques
  • understanding control measures and checking that they are working, and
  • bow tie risk assessments as a tool for workforce involvement and fire risk communication

The workshop content will be tailored to your type of premises and use the relevant guidance issued by the government for fire risk assessment. We focus on practical application of theory and, wherever possible, risk assessments generated by the delegates can then form part of your suite of risk assessments (subject to review and approval by your safety specialist).  The benefits arising from this workshop include:
  • Understand the applicable parts of fire safety law
  • Recognise different fire risk assessment methodologies
  • Recognise fire hazards that may exist in your premises
  • Understand the basic principles of fire safety in your premises
  • Identify structural fire precautions in a building that assist escape and prevent fire and smoke spread, and
  • Develop confidence.
