Road safety advice - do not alight from a car on the traffic side

DO NOT ALIGHT FROM A CAR ON THE TRAFFIC SIDE

From the 1934 Wills Cigarettes 'Safety First' album.

"Do not alight from a car on the traffic side. It is always inadvisable to alight from the traffic side of a car, and the lady in our picture is running grave risks. Should, however, circumstances be such that it is necessary to do so, make sure that the road is clear before opening the door. Cases have been reported where cyclists have been knocked off their machines by motor-car doors carelessly opened. Instances where persons alighting from the traffic side of a car have been run over and injured are not infrequent. After alighting always slam the door, and test it to see that it cannot fly open when the car moves off."
